Jon Rowley’s Oysters

About This Project

As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.

When Jon Rowley read the above passage from Hemingway’s ‘A Moveable Feast,’ he was forever hooked. Oysters became his passion and profession. In this segment, we visited the Pacific Northwest, home of Rowley and his oysters. Produced for Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie, on PBS. Series won James Beard Award for Best Food Series on TV and was nominated for two Emmys.
